This fall is the 150th Pioneer Days.  In honor of this milestone, we are organizing a Kalida Alumni Marching Band.

The band will be led by former directors Lori Klausing (1989- 2015), Chas Myers (1976-2003) and Joe Vacaro (1971-1974) and current director Jacob Litwiller (2015 to present.)  We are excited that Mr. Vacaro will be joining us.

Everyone needs to register by July 1.  The registration form is available here, at the Kalida High School office or St Michael’s Parish office.  If you email Chas Myers with your email address, he can email one to you.  drillman1@woh.rr.com

There is a place on the registration form to mark if you need an instrument.  We will have tubas, baritones, flugelbones, mellophones and Tenor and Bari Saxes available.  We will provide all the percussion equipment but snare drummers will need their own sticks.  If you need smaller instruments like flutes, clarinets, alto saxes, trumpets and trombones, please see if you can find one to borrow or rent.  If you still can’t find one, let us know and we will see what we can do.

We will have color guard equipment for the auxiliaries.  We plan to have majorette and rifle alumni on swing flags which we will provide.

We will have two rehearsals:

Monday, September 5 (Labor Day) from 10:00 AM to Noon, Kalida HS Band Room/Gym.

This rehearsal is for the people that are local and can make it.

Saturday, September 10, 1;30 PM to 3:30 PM at the new Kalida Park.

We are rehearsing at the park because of an all day volleyball tournament at the high school and elementary school gyms.

Pioneer Parade, Sunday, September 11, 1:00 PM SHARP!  Report time at the Kalida High School Band Room is 11:30 AM.  Dress for the parade is Kalida Alumni Band T shirts and Khaki pants, either long or short.  Each member is expected to pay $12.00 to cover the shirt cost and you can send a check with the registration form made out to Kalida Local Schools.

We will be marching with the current KHS Band.  As most of you know, all high school bands are much smaller now and current KHS director, Jacob Litwiller thinks it will be fun for the current students to march in a big band.   We will be playing “You’re A Grand Old Flag.”  Music and fingering charts will be handed out at the rehearsal.  If you want the music ahead of time, email or PM Chas Myers.

We are hoping for all ages.  For our much older members that would like to participate but feel they can’t march the parade route, we will have a flat bed truck in the middle of the band so you can ride and play.

This is going to AWESOME!!!  Can’t wait to hear from you!
