Notice to our Parents 3-13-2020:

On Thursday morning, Putnam County School Superintendents, nurses, and other administrators met with the Putnam County Health Department to gather the latest information on this ongoing crisis and to attempt to establish procedures moving forward regarding school activities. Later that afternoon, a direct order from Governor DeWine was issued to shut down all schools beginning March 16. We apologize for the many inconveniences created by this crisis, but we have no option but to willingly comply.

The safety of our students, staff and families remains our top priority. The Kalida Local School district was closely monitoring the situation and making the necessary preparations in case the COVID-19 becomes more prevalent in our community. While our absenteeism had increased due to the flu, strep throat and other illnesses, COVID-19 was not yet a threat. State directives changed all that Thursday afternoon.

As a result of yesterday’s mandate from Governor DeWine, the Kalida Local School District will take the following compliance steps:

• School will be closed for students beginning at 8am Monday, March 16th through Friday, April 3rd at 3pm.

• All student-related activities in that time frame are suspended. This includes all field trips, athletic practices, academic and athletic events.

 • Rescheduling of some of these events will take place while others will be cancelled permanently. Rescheduling and cancellation alerts for these events, as well as other important information, may be sent through our text alert system. If you are not already utilizing our text alert system, you can subscribe here: http://www.ohioalerts.org/kalida

This morning our school moved to a 2-hour delay in order to give our staff a bit more time to prepare for remote learning for your child over the course of these three weeks. At the end of the day today, your son/daughter should be coming home with information regarding the remote learning. Learning materials will be issued on an ongoing basis through continued communication among teachers, students and parents over the following weeks. Typical methods of communication will be Schoology, text alerts and email.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we work through what is clearly an unprecedented situation. Expect this situation to continue to evolve. You can get the latest updates on the COVID-19 Virus at coronavirus.ohio.gov which is updated daily at 2pm by the Ohio Department of Health.

Respectfully,

Karl Lammers
Superintendent
Kalida Local School District
