At his daily briefing on Monday, March 30, Governor DeWine announced the mandate that all K-12 schools will continue to stay closed through Friday, May 1. As a result of Monday’s mandate from Governor DeWine, the Kalida Local School District will take the following compliance steps:

•School buildings will be closed for students until Friday, May 1st and alternate learning methods will remain in place.

•All student-related activities through this time frame are suspended. This includes all field trips, athletic practices, academic, extra-curricular and athletic events.

•All school facility use by students and the public will be prohibited in that time frame. This includes gymnasiums, weight rooms, baseball and softball diamonds, and playground equipment.

In the meantime, we want to express our appreciation to you the parents, students, staff and community for all your cooperation and assistance during this unprecedented time. Everything you have done to continue to learn, to teach, to guide, and to stay safe and healthy during this crisis has been commendable.

We want to continue to forge ahead as a school in continuing our efforts to be the very best for your son/daughter. Based on what we have experienced with the distance learning format and what we consider our needs after two-plus weeks, we are setting our focus on four more weeks of remote teaching and learning. Mrs. Stechschulte has issued a parent letter for students in Grades K-4 regarding packets, which can be found in Schoology; and Mr. Brinkman has also utilized Schoology to keep middle and high school students up to date on a weekly basis. To stay up-to-date with student quarter grades, students and parents are encouraged to continue checking Schoology. Third nine week report cards will only be posted in Schoology, unless we get a request for a hard copy.

We continue to gather information and make decisions regarding the status of upcoming events in the district; such as the musical, kindergarten screenings, spring sports, prom, concerts, graduation and other spring calendar items. We will continue to utilize our text alert system to provide you with necessary updates and information. The superintendent/treasurer office will remain open from 8:00 – 1:00, Monday through Friday (419-532-3534).

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work through this challenging situation.

Karl Lammers
Superintendent
Kalida Local Schools
