Mr. Richard Kortokrax has been selected by the Gene Stechschulte Award Committee to receive the 2021 version of the award.  Kalida resident, Ryan Kerner, a former player and student of Mr. Kortokrax, nominated him.  Ryan noted his many contributions to the Kalida Schools as principal, athletic director and boys' varsity basketball coach.  Ryan stated, "He touched the lives of hundreds of Kalida students.  He taught and instilled more than just basketball in his program."  Ryan went on to comment on his former coach's high expectations, commitment and dedication to one's effort; the same demands that are expected after graduation and have contributed to Ryan's own success.

Mr. Krotokrax arrived in Kalida in 1974; took on the roles of principal, athletic director and coach.  Forty-one years later, he stepped aside from the last of those positions as the winningest coach in the history of Ohio High School basketball.  His basketball accomplishments are well known across the state; however, this award is being presented for his impact on Kalida's youth, both on and off the court.

Mr. Kortokrax is the sixth recipient of the award, joining Father Mark Hoying, Roger Hanneman, Greg Knueve, Mary Grote and Roger Luersman as recent recipients.  Mr. Kortokrax will tentatively receive the award during halftime of the upcoming boys' varsity game on January 30, 2021.
