Wellness Committee 2023-24 report
Wellness Committee
The Kalida Local Schools Wellness Committee met on April 30, 2024, to review the district wellness plan
and to plan future activities. The agenda consisted of reviews of our nutritional education, physical
activities, student wellness promotions, and staff wellness promotions.
Our Cafeteria Director, Mrs. Neidert, discussed the success of implementing new healthy menu items
and providing choices for students during lunch. Our cafeteria operates separately from the general
school budget and must be self-sufficient, including kitchen payroll and purchasing equipment and all
food items. Mrs. Neidert and her staff have earned the trust and confidence of our students as shown
by our outstanding number of daily meals served. As a result, the cafeteria fund, like the food served, is
very healthy.
Physical health programming at Kalida continues to expand. Mr. Robb Schultz was hired to manage the
weight room and conduct more specialize training for our students. Those students who attended
faithfully this year, have seen athletic gains in many areas. Hopefully, more students will take advantage
of the all-around conditioning approach and realize it’s not just about how much weight you can bench.
We’re looking into bringing back ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ next year; a program that gets kids excited about
exercise and eating well, while teaching them heart-healthy habits that can last a lifetime. We will also
continue to partner with Mercy Health for trainer services, continue our school nurse program and look
to team up locally with a fitness center to offer employees memberships at a subsidized price. In
addition, we’ll search for classroom activities that stimulate activity and enhance learning, and look for
other initiatives, such as a steps challenge, to keep students and staff in shape.
This past year saw multiple wellness activities implemented and we hope to do even more next school
year.
